Dr Callahan is a podiatric physician specializing in medical and surgical care of  the foot and ankle.  She is Board Certified in Foot Surgery, Podiatric Orthopedics, and Wound Care.  She is an active alumna of Columbia University, Hunter College – City University of New York, and the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr Callahan served in the US Army, 320th Evacuation Hospital, from 1976 to 1980.  She taught nursing and aspects of emergency care to City of New York Police and Firefighters. Dr Callahan has held academic appointments at the Yale Medical School, New York College of Podiatric Medicine, California College of Podiatric Medicine and Hunter College-CUNY.


Presently, Dr Callahan works with the Northeast Medical Group at Yale New Haven Hospital, maintains privileges at St Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT, is developing telemedicine skills, and teaching.  She has founded and transitioned three private practices to associates that were located in New York City, Scarsdale, NY, and in Fairfield, CT  In 2008, she joined the Yale Medical Group, Department of Orthopedics.


As a member of Foot Health Committees for the American Diabetes Association, American Public Health Association and American Podiatric Medical Association, she works on issues facing physicians as well as patients.  She served as past president, a board director of the Connecticut Podiatric Medical Association, and on the House of Delegates to the APMA. continues national and state legislative efforts.  She has been involved in research and NIH grants.


Dr Callahan received the John D Walker Award for exceptional service to her community and profession, US Army commendations, and is a member of the Pi Delta Honor Society.  Her three adult children have grown up sharing faith, church life, and service to others.  All have helped out in offices, attended conferences and volunteered with their mother and individually over the years.


Dr Callahan’s goal with FruitStreet is to have a role in the prevention of and to reduce complications of type 2 diabetes. She believes that delivery of healthcare and wellness will be enhanced with technology and FruitStreet’s engagement of each individual in his/her own care incentivizes and utilizes feedback not only for patients, but also for physicians and health care providers.
